another post -- "I Will Be Blessed" -- last day of 2nd semester :))
good morning friends, family, and strangers! So yes - I am really going to try posting a lot more now that school is ending and this summer is going to be LIFE CHANGING! Long story short, I want to keep my emotions in check because I know that if I don't, I will probably lose my mind dealing with all the stresses that are currently going on. I seriously feel like I'm slowly approaching the cliff that is summer... and now I just have to take a leap of faith!! :/ but it will be good and wonderful and amazing if I have the right mindset. Thank you all for taking the time to read my thoughts and feelings - it really means a lot!! Also - please go check out my last post about Dijon and his song "Nico's Red Truck" because like I said, he is phenomenal!
So today is Friday (the best day of the week) but more importantly, it is my last day of classes for this semester!! I did it. :) Again, this has probably been the longest 3.5 months of my life, and I have definitely learned so much more about myself than I could have ever imagined... but here we are! We made it and now I get to breathe and live beautifully for the summer... until my next adventure begins! For my new readers looking at this blog, this is a safe place for me to share my emotions and music ... and how music has the power to make someone feel sooo many emotions! Music truly is one of the most beautiful forms of expression that is highly underrated!! I suggest everyone plug into their music and really try to figure out how it makes them feel ... because I guarantee that you will learn something new about yourself when you sit down with yourself and your music; there is a personal connection between yourself and the music you listen to that is unlike any other relationship that you can ever have!
Anyways, on this Friday morning, I want to talk about one of my favorite songs of all time, "I Will Be Blessed" by Ben Howard. Okay so this song is very very slow and acoustic so only listen to it when you are in the mood for a nice chill song. I definitely only listened to acoustic music prior to this semester, but even now that I have branched out to other genres, I still come back to Ben Howard and other acoustic authors because they are so calming and grounding. This song is actually on my "sweet sounds of acoustic" playlist that I typically listen to while studying/doing homework, so this song is definitely good if you need to focus on something (whether it's school work or personal growth).
My favorite lyrics from this song are the following...
"Oh hey, heaven is the place we know.
Heaven is the arms that hold us
Long before we go"
So oftentimes, life can get very stressful... we lose ourselves in the day to day bustle of life. And we forget to thank ourselves for how hard we work to be the best we can be! :) So this song is a good reminder that we are surrounded by good people, and that the love that we give ourselves is SO important! If we don't love ourselves... then how can we expect to enjoy our lives? We do know heaven, like Ben Howard says, because it is the loving people that we surround ourselves with, it is the wonderful and exciting things that we occupy our time with. Heaven is on Earth, but we often forget that because it does get VERY stressful and hectic and difficult.
"Heaven is the arms that hold us" because heaven is the arms of our family members and friends who carry us through the difficult times when giving up on ourselves sounds better (me this past semester). Sometimes, it helps to surround yourself with people that you love and trust because really, we cannot get through life alone. It is also difficult when those who we thought with love us and be there forever vanish suddenly from our lives... but those are the moments in life when your strength is really put to the test -- you learn so much more about yourself when you really found those people who you know are going to be by your side for the rest of your life. As humans, we were created to live with other people -- we are social creatures and cannot survive that long without others. We rely on people to laugh with, to cry with, and to smile with. They help us through when times get tough, and they are there to hold our hands when our tears uncontrollably run down own faces.
Ben Howard also says "Long before we go", meaning that we do not have to wait until death to experience the blessings of heaven. We can find pieces of heaven on Earth! There are so many small and beautiful blessings right in front of us, but if we are just trying to get through life, chances are... we will miss all of these wonderful opportunities to get know and love all the people around us. The title of the song too, "I Will Be Blessed", is also very uplifting. It declares that no matter what happens in life, you will be blessed. There are so many wonderful opportunities waiting for you out in the world that it would be impossible for you to go throughout life without being blessed. :) This is something that is super difficult to realize because again, sometimes life feels like it is out to get you... but really, it is not. There are so many more wonderful things than awful things, so it is extremely important to always remember that there are more things to look forward to when everything seems dark around you.
This song really got me through this semester - seriously. Like I mentioned in my previous post, this semester has been life changing in so many ways, and I feel like I've aged 5 years and completely changed who I was from the beginning of January. But again, I wouldn't change anything that happened because then I wouldn't have grown into the young woman that I am today! So please give this song, and other songs by Ben Howard, a goooood listen because it is very calming and beautiful. :) Always remember that you ALL will be blessed, no matter what you are going through, no matter how hard life gets, and no matter how much you want to give up on yourself! :) :)
Thanks again for reading -- love you all!
Till next time...
Sleep good and hold tight :))
